Atlanta City Council Passes Marijuana Decriminalization Ordinance

Cannabis State Law

Atlanta’s city council voted unanimously to pass a marijuana decriminalization ordinance. Atlanta Mayor, Kasim Reed, tweeted that he’s looking forward to reviewing and signing the ordinance into law.

Possession of one ounce or less of marijuana would result in a fine of $75, according to AJC.com. No jail time would be given for simple possession, unless other circumstances are in play.

The current monetary fine for marijuana possession is $1,000.

If Mayor Reed does not sign the legislation into law within the next week, it will automatically become law.
