New Bill Seeks to Legalize Marijuana Cultivation in Georgia

Bill 36 (HB 36) has been introduced by Representative Allen Peake. If the bill is approved, Georgia voters will decide whether to allow cultivation in the state or not.

Some Georgians are permitted to use CBD oil in a strictly regulated and limited program, according to Reason.  Currently, there is no way for Georgia patients to obtain CBD oil in their state because cultivation is outlawed. HB 36 seeks to change that.

Peake has said in previous interviews that, “It’s clear we’re going to have a hard time passing a cultivation bill (in the state Legislature) for the next two years. So why not put it in front of the voters, where every poll shows there’s clear evidence that voters support this?”

Updates on hearings for HB 36 are expected in the near future. If the bill passes through the State Legislature, voters will see the measure on November 2018 ballots.
