Poll: Georgians Support Medical Marijuana Expansion, But Not Recreational Marijuana

Ganja Georgia
Georgia has a very limited medical marijuana law. According to a recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll, 71-percent of its voters would approve an in-state cultivation plan. Georgian’s aren’t for legal recreational marijuana yet, but are for expanding the medical marijuana side of it. The voters would approve this expansion with heavy control on selected growers and distributors.

The poll did show that more than 50-percent do not want recreational marijuana right now, according to Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Adults and parents of adolescents requiring medical marijuana have to qualify for one of only eight conditions. They must register with the state and can possess only 20-ounces of marijuana oil to treat their conditions.

Supporters want to see the program expanded to include more treatable illnesses. They also want to see a program devised for in-state growing for better patient access to medicine.

Governor Nathan Deal, along witih local law enforcement, are not so keen on the idea. They’re against any type of expansion. They won’t budge until the Federal Government budges. That isn’t going to stop State Rep. Allen Peake from moving forward with his arguments though. He will continue his push as the legislative session begins. He hopes that the poll results hold heavy weight when the discussion begins.
