Georgia Lawmakers Prepare for Medical Marijuana Initiatives in 2017

Some Georgia lawmakers have heard what the residents have to say about medical marijuana and they’re prepared to push initiatives and discussions in 2017 to bring legal medical marijuana to those that need it. Representative Allen Peake is a vocal supporter of medical marijuana in Georgia.

While medical marijuana is legal for some illnesses in Georgia, it can’t be grown or imported from out of state, WTOC News reported. So, this means that yes, it’s okay if you use it for an approved condition but it’s still not legal to grow, bring in or buy in Georgia. It’s just about impossible to use medical marijuana in Georgia without breaking some kind of law.

One television commercial supporting medical marijuana, from a father regarding his son’s condition, says, “Very painful and rare genetic skin disease. He’s young and his condition causes severe itching and a lot of the damage is self-inflicted. Cannabis oil relieves that urge to scratch.”

Peake said, “So until there are changes done at the federal level, we’re going to have to find a solution in Georgia and the real solution is to be able to provide a cultivation model in Georgia, where we can grow it, process it, and distribute it here in Georgia.”

Representative Peake also wants to expand the current qualifying conditions list.
