Study Finds Cannabinoids Are Effective at Pain Relief

Cannabinoids Pain

A study published in the Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology reveals that cannabinoids – such as THC and CBD – are “safe, modestly effective analgesics that provide a reasonable therapeutic option in the management of chronic non-cancer pain.”

These findings correspond with Nora Volkow’s, the director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), which is a U.S. government institution, who in August mentioned in the Huffington Post that she believes cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in marijuana, is “a safe drug with no addictive effects, and the preliminary data suggest that it may have therapeutic value for a number of medical conditions.”

The study’s researchers also noted that: “Several trials also demonstrated improvement in secondary outcomes (e.g., sleep, muscle stiffness and spasticity).”
