Trump Declares He Can Ignore States’ Medical Marijuana Protections

Trump Marijuana

President Trump has been inconsistent with his stance about enforcing marijuana-related laws for his entire presidency.

This time, he’s included a little anti-cannabis notice at the end of the Fiscal Year 2020 funding bill, and it has people scratching their heads, Forbes reported.

President Trump implied that he can ignore the provisions included in the federal spending bill that pertain to federal prosecution against medical marijuana legalized states and the patients in those states.

“Division B, section 531 of the Act provides that the Department of Justice may not use any funds made available under this Act to prevent implementation of medical marijuana laws by various States and territories,” Trump wrote. “My Administration will treat this provision consistent with the President’s constitutional responsibility to faithfully execute the laws of the United States.”

To date, President Trump hasn’t infringed on marijuana states’ protections, not even when his former Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, tried diligently to crack down on them. Americans living in medical and recreational marijuana states can only hope for the best.
