World Health Organization Says CBD Is Safe for Public Health

CBD

A new World Health Organization (WHO) report says that cannabidiol (CBD), a naturally-occurring and non-psychoactive substance in cannabis, has multiple medical uses and no adverse health outcomes. Yet, the federal government still has CBD listed as a Schedule 1 substance.

“To date, there is no evidence of recreational use of CBD or any public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD,” wrote the WHO, reports Forbes.

Recent studies actually suggest that CBD can alleviate the psychoactive effects of marijuana. Scientists further stated that CBD doesn’t induce physical dependence and is “not associated with abuse potential.” The WHO stated that, unlike THC, people aren’t getting high off of CBD.

According to the WHO’s preliminary report in November, CBD is a safe substance and well tolerated in people and animals, and isn’t associated with any negative public health effects.

The WHO determined that CBD has “been demonstrated as an effective treatment for epilepsy” in humans and animals, and that “preliminary evidence” shows CBD could be useful in treating cancer, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, psychosis, and many other health conditions.
