Georgia’s Inept Medical Marijuana Law Causing Civil Disobedience

With Georgia being such a conservative state, especially when it comes to marijuana, only allowing CBD products has proven to be a poor choice. One mom, Jennifer Conforti, is leading the argument to expand Georgia’s medical marijuana program. Civil disobedience campaigns have been carried out to pressure Georgia lawmakers to change the current legislation and make necessary changes to the program.

Conforti said, “There are some pretty tenacious parents who are fighting.”

Only 8 conditions were approved in Georgia, with the allowance to use marijuana-based products containing no more than 0.3 percent THC being permitted. Allen Peake has pushed for an extension of the current medical marijuana program, according to Immortal News. Georgia lawmakers have been hesitant to expand the approved conditions and types of marijuana-based products available to patients.

Conforti argues that the program is a mess and needs revamping. She said, “I’m not advocating for recreational use. It’s for my daughter. She actually has a quality of life now. We’ve been doing it for a year and a half now and we’re not going to stop.”

Georgia law currently only allows for CBD products, but not for the cultivation or production of the medicine, which means patients cannot easily get access to medicine.
